Cedarville has officially confirmed The Ventriloquist's report from July 23 that Jonathan Wood, formerly an administrator at Southwest Baptist Theological Seminary, has been selected as the new VP for Student Life and Christian Ministries.
On July 24, the university released the following statement:
Jonathan A. Wood Named VP at Cedarville University Wood oversees Student Life and Christian Ministries
CEDARVILLE, OHIO – Jonathan A. Wood has been named Vice president for Student Life and Christian Ministries. He will begin his responsibilities on August 9, 2013.
“I am excited to join an institution which has stood for the truth of Jesus Christ for over a century,” said Wood. “Cedarville has long equipped students with a distinct Christian worldview, and I am humbled by the opportunity to join an influential and historic institution as we look to the future of proclaiming the Gospel and transforming culture.” Since 2004, Wood has served in various roles at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary (SWBTS) in Fort Worth, Texas, including resident director, conference coordinator, director of student services and communication and adjunct professor. Most recently, he was the director of the Riley Center, a 55,000 square foot conference center where he led the reorganization of two separate departments into a single department in order to increase efficiency and effectiveness. Wood was also an instructor in a master’s level ethics course that focused on marriage and family issues.
As director of student services and communication from 2007-2012, he managed staff, assisted the vice president with student discipline and student counseling, and assisted in planning and managing the $7-million divisional budget. Wood also created and implemented new marketing initiatives for print, web, outdoor, and email and led a nine-month restructure of the student center operations that included dining services, copy center, post office, logo store, and student center facilities.
Wood is currently pursuing a doctoral degree in systematic theology from SWBTS. He has a master’s degree from Southwestern and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Oklahoma.
At Cedarville, Wood will lead the recently merged divisions of student life and Christian ministries, calling upon his prior experience at SWBTS. The University will continue to provide excellent programming, support services, and ministry opportunities for students, which have contributed to Cedarville’s top ratings on the Noel-Levitz Student Satisfaction Inventory.
“Student Life and Christian Ministries at Cedarville University supports the academic mission of the institution by encouraging the students to live wholly transformed by the work of the Gospel,” said Wood. “It is a privilege to be a part of a team that calls others to love God, love others, and to live with integrity and excellence. I look forward to spending a great deal of time developing relationships with students and investing in the future of Cedarville.”
